With most Virtual Assistants being women and or moms, I’ve made some great connections online with people I have never met in person. These people have supported me in ways I have never thought imaginable within an online community and they’ve also helped me brainstorm ideas on how to solve client issues when I’ve gotten stuck.

As freelancers it can sometimes feel isolating to work from home in your VA business but it’s important to remember that there are lots of people cheering you on making it even more important to find a community you love, who will support you and make you feel a lot less alone on this sometimes challenging journey.

I was lucky enough at the start of my virtual assistant business journey to get signed on with an agency. This was the best thing to have happened for me because it helped take the pressure off of needing to network, find ideal clients, vetting them, worrying about insurance, and managing my own social media accounts. Joining an agency allowed me to focus on becoming the very best Virtual Assistant I could be and learning how to serve my clients well.

But I recognize that joining an agency is not something everyone is willing or wanting to do for a variety of reasons. For me, the pros outweighed the cons, and it was the path I chose to fast track my journey to making money online.

There is no right or wrong path to your Virtual Assistant journey, only what feels best for you at this point in your life.

What to Consider Before Joining These Groups

Before you join any of these Facebook Groups, you are going to want to make sure you read over the group rules and any helpful information about that group. Many Facebook Groups don’t allow self-promotion, or only want you to promote your services under specific posts. Make sure you adhere to the rules or else you risk getting kicked out!

Even if a Facebook Group doesn’t allow self-promotion, it’s still a good idea to join these groups and show up daily to network and leave thoughtful comments. You never know how potential clients will find you!

Many times a business owner will send you a DM after viewing your personal profile. Therefore, it’s important to optimize your personal Facebook profile so that clients can learn more about you and contact you easily.

A great way to optimize your profile includes adding a Facebook banner CTA (Call To Action) for clients to visit your website, schedule a call with you, or send you a message. Add a link to your website or LinkedIn profile in your About section.

A Warning About Job Opportunities

As always, it’s important to use good judgment when applying for online job opportunities. If there is an unreasonable amount of urgency, if the job poster asks for money, or if there are a lot of poor grammar mistakes, it most likely is a scam!

A good practice is to Google and search on Facebook for the business name or the job poster’s name. Oftentimes, if someone else was swindled in a job opportunity that was too good to be true, someone else will have posted about it!

I once had a lady contact me for a Virtual Assistant job opportunity, after searching her name on Facebook, I quickly realized that she had a pattern of hiring Virtual Assistants working with them for a month, and then ghosting them and not sending payment.

A quick 10 – 15 minutes of research can save you a lot of heartache!
